| Inserts are similar to stoves except they are designed to fit into an existing fireplace. Many people confuse inserts with Zero-clearance fireplaces. In our terminolgy an insert is a stove that relies on an existing fireplace to complete it's installation. Some stoves can be used as inserts as well as a few zero-clearance fireplaces. But most inserts cannot be used apart from an existing fireplace and are not finished enough to stand alone. Since an insert can usually re-use the chimney from the existing fireplace the cost of venting can be less than a freestander. Still, the units themselves are usually a little more costly than a freestander and normally include a blower and a set of surround panels. Following is a list of the different styles of inserts we offer for sale and installation in our market area. (See our sales and service policies about Internet sales). Click on the insert category link to get a list of the brands and models we offer in that category. Models change from time to time so we may not have the exact model shown available at any time. | Wood Inserts | If you love the traditional wood fire but don't like the heat loss and draftiness from your old open fireplace, the wood insert is for you. Most can be burned with the door open, allowing you to treat the insert like an open fireplace when desired. But with the door closed you'll convert that fireplace into a highly efficient heater. Some inserts are big enough to heat the whole house, though most are best used as a supplement to your central heat system. | ||
| Pellet Inserts | Pellet inserts work the same as freestanding pellet stoves but they are specifically designed to convert your open fireplace into an efficient heat producer. | ||
| Gas Inserts | In the same way that wood insert convert your fireplace into an efficient heater, the gas insert is best at returning the fireplace into a useful appliance rather than a negative heating proposition. Gas inserts have all the same benefits of wood inserts with the exception of open door burning. The flames are beautiful and the efficiencies can be as much as 80%. For smaller spaces and supplemental heat they are hard to beat. And no mess or hauling fuel. | ||
